Sands Catering was founded in 1972 in the heart of Soho. What started as a local catering operation has grown into one of London's largest and longest-established catering companies — feeding more than 50,000 people every month across the capital.

OUR FOUNDING STORY

From Soho, 1972

Michael Rapacioli founded Sands Catering in Soho in 1972, drawing on deep roots in London's food scene — including connections to Patisserie Valerie, Pontis and Amato. From the beginning, the focus was simple: great food, made properly, delivered reliably. More than 50 years on, that founding principle still drives everything we do. What began as a small local operation has grown into a 200-strong team, serving 700+ businesses and delivering over 2 million meals.

OUR GROWTH JOURNEY

Built for scale, without losing our soul

In December 2023, we opened our 20,000 sq ft central production unit near Finsbury Park — one of the most capable catering facilities in London. Housing a hot food kitchen, cold food kitchen, and in-house bakery, it runs 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, supported by a fleet of 30 refrigerated hybrid vans and additional satellite units across the city. The infrastructure to feed 10,000+ people daily, with the attention to detail you'd expect from a family business.

A hot food kitchen, cold food kitchen, and in-house bakery sit under one roof, supported by satellite units and a fleet of 30 refrigerated hybrid vans. We prepare and deliver more than 10,000 meals daily — from individual working lunches to multi-site workplace programmes across London.
